Product Review: Activated Charcoal Konjac Sponge

Getting packages in the mail is the highlight of my life. I love getting things because I often forget what I’ve ordered by the time it arrives, so it’s exciting to find out what’s inside. This time I received a konjac sponge to try out for my blog – I enjoy using konjac sponges and wanted to try one out with activated charcoal.

Amazon shipment

The konjac sponge arrived wrapped as they usually do. It was completely solid and I was a bit taken aback when I opened it because it has a strong unpleasant scent. I am very sensitive to smell though so I’m not sure that it would bother anyone else.

New Conjac Sponge

I was happy to see that this sponge included the string for hanging and that the sponge itself was larger than most I have tried. It’s not gigantic, but it is slightly bigger than most.

Charcoal Conjac Sponge

Next I took it to the bathroom to get it wet. The sponge softened quickly after running it under the tab. The smell did not linger – I took a huge whiff and there was nothing unpleasant.

Wet Conjac Sponge

After using it on my face I can safely report that this is a great purchase. I recently moved so most of my things are in random locations and hard to find. I haven’t been able to exfoliate my skin chemically for a while, and I will keep this hanging in the shower so that I can do so physically each morning. The sponge is nice and soft so it does not irritate your skin when you use it, and it leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh.

Have you ever used a konjac sponge before? Are you interested in trying one out but have questions? Let me know and I’ll try to answer as best I can 🙂

Review: Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid Shiny Foot

One of my favorite Asian beauty products is the Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid Shiny Foot. This product helps remove all of the dead skin from your feet and is absolutely disgusting but also complete magic. I have done a foot peel twice and have been very happy with the results both times. If you’re someone who has stubborn dead skin during the winter, I highly recommend trying this product out.

Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid

The product comes packed neatly in a nice square box, about the size of a DVD case.

Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid Contents

Inside you’ll find two packets of “super peeling liquid,” a sample-sized packet of the Tony Moly Shiny Foot foot cream, and two plastic booties.

Tony Moly Foot Peel Process

In order to use the product, you slip the booties on your feet and then pour in the peeling liquid. After you pour it in, you can tie the booties tight around your ankles to prevent any of the product from leaking.

Tony Moly Foot Peel Wraps

The liquid feels very cold when you pour it over your feet. Though it’s cold, the liquid does not hurt or tingle. It’s important that you keep the booties on for at least 30 minutes so that the liquid can soak into your skin. The booties fit my feet perfectly, and I am a US size 9. Because they have ties, the booties will be able to adjust to fit different sized feet.

Here is a picture of my heel before using the product.

Tony Moly Foot Peel

Here is a picture of my heel after my skin started peeling. This process does not hurt – though it does hurt if you pick/peel any skin that is not ready to come off. The areas that are white tend to be ready to go and the areas that are more skin colored are not quite ready to be removed. It’s always a fun surprise when you look down and suddenly big chunks of your skin are falling off.

It takes about a week for the skin to start peeling, and the length of time that it peels is unique to each person. If you have an event or know that you will be showing off your feet, I would give yourself at least two weeks from start to finish so that you do not terrify anyone.

All-in-all, I really enjoy this Tony Moly product. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to try out a foot peel or a unique product. I am keeping a couple of them on hand so that I can take care of my feet whenever a disaster strikes. Since I can’t keep my feet smooth on my own, it’s nice to know that at least there is a product out there that will turn the situation around.

Review: Mediheal AirGuard Foilab Sheet Mask

I was very excited to try out this sheet mask – not only is it super cool and unique, but it is the first asian beauty item that I have received for free in order to try out and review on my blog. I entered a contest on Mishe Beauty to try out several different products and was really excited when the company emailed to let me know that I had been selected to try out the Mediheal AirGuard Foilab Sheet Mask.

The product arrived in the mail a few weeks ago. I was very under the weather so I wasn’t able to review it right away, and I finally got the chance to do so today.

Mediheal Airguard Foilab Mask Silver Waterful

Right away I was really excited because I have never tried a foil mask before. I have seen a few pictures of them on the internet and had my fingers crossed that I would be able to try this one out. I was excited to see that it was “waterful” which means hydrating, because it is the middle of summer and I have been spending a lot of time in the sun. My skin needs all the hydrating it can  get.

IMG_5963.JPG

When I took the mask out of the packet I was surprised to see that it was in two pieces. I have been wanting to try a split mask for a while, but thought that I would need to cut one of my own in order to do so. Masks tend to fit my face pretty well so I haven’t needed to do it, but they never fit my boyfriend or my friends.

I was also very confused about how to put it on my face. I wasn’t sure if I needed to peel anything off, so I fumbled around with it for a while before I finally realized what to do.

IMG_5968.JPG

I had a lot of fun putting this on. I was not able to get off the couch so I did it blind and adjusted using my phone. I did think it was a bit of a strange fit and had a hard time straightening it out to try to make it look nice.

Sheet Mask Cute Girls

I enjoyed the fact that even looking super goofy I looked adorable.

silver sheet mask

I had a hard time looking cute in this mask, maybe because my hair was wet, but I did have a lot of fun trying it on and taking pictures. It’s very fancy and cute! I texted my boyfriend and he called me a beautiful robot.

I didn’t care much for the serum. It had the standard chemically smell that a lot of masks have and it started to sting my face after a few minutes. I was worried that I might have an allergic reaction, so I probably need to check out the ingredient list and see if there is anything in it that might have caused that reaction. My skin was fine when I took the mask off, but it was not the most enjoyable sheet mask experience I have had.

The mask does contain “70% Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate.” I hadn’t heard of this before but a quick google suggests that it is a fermented fungus and is very common in asian skincare products. Apparently it is very good at moisturizing and locking that moisture in.

One of the coolest things about it is that the silver side felt dry, but when I took it off my skin was very moist from the serum. The material kept the moisture in so that it would absorb rather than evaporate.

All-in-all, I really enjoyed trying out this mask. The main draw is how cute and unique it is, but the mask itself was pretty nice. If you’d like to try it out feel free to check out the Mishe Beauty website. You can also apply for any of their ongoing campaigns and maybe receive a product to try yourself.

Do you think you’ll try one of these masks out? Do you have any other questions? I still want to try the gold version, it’s so beautiful!

Seller Review: Tester Korea

I recently ordered from Tester Korea and wanted to share my experience. I usually order from Memebox and Amazon but I was looking for a specific product. The product (Dear by Enprani Moistfull Booskin) I wanted used to be on both websites, but Memebox has shut down and the product is not available on Amazon. Tester Korea was the website that I found with the best price so I decided to give it a shot.

User experience: As far as using the website, I didn’t have too many problems. The translation was decent but not perfect. I did not have any trouble navigating the website or understanding the details about what I was ordering. The site offers conversion rates, which was very helpful when I was deciding whether or not I could afford items.

Screen Shot 2017-06-23 at 8.06.39 PM.png

Pricing: I liked the pricing on this website. I didn’t see anything that was significantly overpriced, and a lot of the prices were better than Amazon or similar websites. They have discounts on many of the top items on the website, making them more affordable than other options. Unfortunately, there was no free shipping threshold when I ordered so I had to suck it up and pay for shipping.

Selection: I was SO BEYOND HAPPY to find two products that I really wanted on this website. The first was the Dear by Enprani Moistful Booskin, and the second was the Tony Moly Inked Cushion Gel Liner. Both were listed at a reasonable price and it was so nice to finally have these within reach. The website also had a number of interesting items on sale for low prices that I had not tried before, so I took advantage of the opportunity and tried out some new items.

Checkout: I had an easy time reviewing my purchases and verifying how much I had spent. For some reason my order is now showing conversion to won, but it showed how much everything cost in dollars when I originally placed the order. I like that they highlight the specifications of the products so it is less likely there will be a mistake before the package is sent out.

Screen Shot 2017-06-23 at 8.13.43 PM.png

Shipping: I placed my order on May 5, 2017, and received my order on May 26, 2017. I received updates about the package while it was in transit, and the package arrived secure and intact. Three weeks was not bad for a package to travel internationally without paying a huge amount of money.

Packaging: My order was packed perfectly. The box was a sturdy plastic and the items were well organized inside. The company used cute packing peanuts to stuff the box and keep the items secure. Everything arrived safe and sound with no issues.

IMG_4809 2.JPG

I really enjoyed ordering from Tester Korea. I was happy to get a new bottle of Moistfull Booskin and to finally try out the infamous Harry Potter inspired eyeliner. I would definitely order from this website again and recommend it to others, though I wish that the shipping was free or that there was at least a price threshold that I could reach to earn free shipping.

Interested in the content of the haul? There’s a blog post for that.

Have you ordered from Tester Korea before? What was your experience?

First Impressions: June Small Haul

I doubt that I will be buying many products in June. I have updated my routine with new products and have recently replaced the items I use that have run out. I am also moving and don’t need to add to the stress of that. However, I did ~need~ an oil cleanser, and I have been wanting to try out two other products.

Victoria’s Secret Weightless Body Oil: While this product isn’t AB, I read a review somewhere and really wanted to try it out. I don’t use body oil on a consistent basis though I have purchased it in the past. I used it for the first time last night and was happy with the scent, which isn’t too overwhelming and smells like summer. I also liked that I felt moisturized but didn’t feel sticky, or like I should avoid touching anything. All in all, I’m already happy with the product.

COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner: I remember this being the first AB product I heard about. My friend purchased it as her first AB item and let me know that it was amazing. Over the last year I avoided purchasing this product because I am a big fan of Stridex in the red box, and didn’t think that it was necessary to spend more than $5 on a BHA. However, I tried to find an AHA that worked for me and wasn’t able to. I tried the St Ives pads and really disliked them and in general, I don’t really want to spend money on anything else that I won’t use. So, I am going to give this a shot and see if it helps out. If not, I’ll decant and resell.

Heimish All Clean Balm: This was the product that I needed to purchase. I had an oil cleanser that I used last year and enjoyed, but I stopped oil cleansing sometime during the year because I realized that it was something I did not need to be doing. I don’t have a need for daily sunscreen use and I don’t use makeup all over, so double cleansing is not always something that I need to do. However, now that it’s summer, I’ve noticed that my skin is breaking out more and it seems to happen after using sunscreen on my face. I’m hoping that adding this step back in will prevent that.

I really like this product already – I haven’t actually used it, but the packaging is wonderful and the smell is incredible. I am excited to try it out.

Thats it! Have you tried any products? What are your must haves this month?

Review: Skederm Snail Jelly Mask

Last night I had a friend over for beauty time and we tried out the Skederm Snail Jelly Mask. This was my first time using the mask and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the product. I decided to purchase these masks because I had read a good review, and there was a 50% off deal for Amazon. I get a little nervous trying new products because I always worry that my skin will have a bad reaction, but these masks had ingredients similar to masks I’ve tried before.

The masks arrived as a 10 pack, and unfortunately, the box was squished. The masks themselves were fine, but I really enjoy nice packaging and was kind of bummed that Amazon didn’t package the product well.

When we took the masks out of the packaging, the first thing that I noticed was the texture. The product had a pleasant gel like consistently that instantly made me feel like my skin would be more plump after using. The masks contain snail secretion, which is in several of my favorite products that I used regularly and works really well with my skin. The mask itself was thin but not thin enough to fall apart or tear while opening.

My mask fit me perfectly, but it was too big for my friend’s beautiful face. My boyfriend also tried one on, and it was a bit too small in some areas and also hung off around his beard.

Here is a very lovely clip of the three of us wearing our masks.

Anna pointed out that I looked a litttttle bit cuter in my mask than she did in hers:

Annnd here is a photo of each of us with our masks on:

While the product itself was pretty wonderful, the mask fit my face the best of the three. Devon had a few issues due to beard life, and it was too big for Anna and kept slipping off, though she liked the serum. There are methods for cutting masks that might help them both have better experiences in the future.

We all really liked the serum and I personally felt like my skin was super moist and plump after using, and the entire day following. I am currently using a retinoid so I applied this after Stridex in the red box and the Retin-A cream, and did not have the usual dryness at the end of my routine.

Also, Anna is apparently a genius because after putting the mask on she took what was left of the serum from the envelope and rubbed it on her legs. I can’t believe that I never thought to do this myself.

I would definitely repurchase this product and recommend it to friends, so if you end up buying and trying it out, please let me know!

Review: Rodan and Fields Mini Facial

I was recently able to try the Rodan and Fields products thanks to my friend Sarah. I had not previously heard of this brand but I did a little bit of research and it looks like a brand I could really get behind.
Sarah sent me a mini-facial kit. I was extra excited when the products arrived because she put them in the cutest packaging. Basically after I post this I will be doing a google so that I can find out where to buy similarly cute packaging.

First I unpacked the products. I loved the way that they sent the samples. The tiny capsules are a good way to not waste a ton of plastic/paper on packaging and I found that all three of the products were very easy to open and dispense. I also enjoyed the fact that there was a step by step guide that told me what the products were and how to use them.

The microdermabrasion paste (step 1) was very interesting – I don’t usually use scrubs so this was a new experience for me. I did not really care for the smell (it wasn’t scented, just chemically) and while I was using the paste, some got in my mouth and it tasted salty. I was also a little worried when I read the directions because it said not to use on sensitive skin. I can never figure out what the blanket “sensitive skin” statement means, but it usually concerns me given that my skin is quite acne prone.
The paste itself did a great job. I massaged it into my face for about 1min 30 seconds (I like to get what I can out of a sample, lol) and when I rinsed, my skin felt very smooth and moisturized.

Next I took out the blue capsule, which was Night Renewing Serum. This product also worried me because it didn’t come with information and I am genuinely terrified that things will have acne triggers. However, my fears went out the window as soon as I put the liquid on my fingers and applied it to my face. This product is amazing. It spreads quickly and has a matte texture after use. It felt very luxious and fancy. I would likely buy this product if I could confirm that it would not make my skin breakout. I definitely wish there would have been more of this because I absolutely loved the way it felt.
Afterwards I used the lip treatment which had a vanilla scent/taste. I did not think that the lip treatment was any better than the night time lip treatment that I currently use. There was a bit too much of the product so I overapplied and felt a little gooey. But lets be real – that was more of a personal problem than a product problem. I don’t think that I would purchase this product because I’m not the biggest fan of vanilla lip treatments and I prefer the flavor of the product I am currently using. However, if you’re looking for a good lip treatment with vanilla flavor, this might be a good option for you.
All-in-all this was an enjoyable experience. Of the three, I would be most likely to purchase the middle product. I did start to experience a breakout the next day, but my skin is so unpredictable that I can’t say for sure whether it was because of the Rodan and Fields products or for some other random reason. I know that the company has products that are ok for acne so I will look into those.
If you’re interested in receiving a sample kit so that you can try these products, please send me an email and I will connect you with Sarah. You can also check out her R&F website.
Have you ever tried these products? What are your favorites?

Nighttime sheet mask routine

I have not been using sheet masks much in 2017 but I recently started using a retinoid and thought my skin could use a boost. I like sheet masking because the different sheet masks have different benefits and can be useful when other products cause irritation. Right now my skin is a little bit irritated and super dry, so I decided to go with the Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

If I sheet mask I always do it before bed. Naturally the first step of this routine is washing my face. Tonight I used the Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash, which is my go-to face wash when I’m not in the shower. I love this face wash because it has a balanced ph and doesn’t dry my skin out. It is super neutral and also doesn’t have any acne triggers. It would be my holy grail if it didn’t seem to always get ruined in the shower.

After washing my face I spray Dear by Enprani Moistful Booskin all over my face. This is my all-time favorite asian beauty product and I’ve been going nuts lately because I can’t find a full-size bottle online for an affordable price. Moistful Booskin is a moisturizing toner which works to hydrate your face and prepare it for whatever comes next. This particular product smells like roses and is perfect. I decanted it into this spray bottle so I could get full, all-over coverage without wasting a drop.

After the booskin, I use an active. Since I’m working on adding the retinoid into my routine most nights, I used Stridex in the red box tonight. I don’t remember why at this point, but red box is the only one that you should use. This is one of the very best products for actually fighting acne out there – I highly recommend it. Since it can be a bit drying, I always follow up with a face lotion or a hydrating sheet mask.

Now, the sheet mask. As I mentioned, I used the Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack tonight. I love this mask – it’s one of the first asian beauty products that I bought and I try to always have one on hand. They’re super soothing, smell good, don’t have acne triggers, and my skin always feels perfectly hydrated the next day. I figured it would be good since my skin is breaking out a little bit from the retinoid, and the moisturizing aspect is desperately needed right now. I have a dozen other masks that I’ll use if I’m feeling adventurous or experiencing a bad breakout, but this is a nice go to when my skin needs a pick-me-up.

Beauty Review: Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution Face Mask

img_2274

I was very lucky this weekend to stumble upon a real life Kbeauty store in Chicago Chinatown! I was in town with family for an event and we went to Chinatown for lunch before heading home. I kept my eye open for Kbeauty, but nothing caught my eye until just before we were leaving.

I went into a store called “Korean Beauty Store” and really loved the experience. I saw a ton of products that I have purchased during the last year, and it was neat to see some of the more “well known” products in real life. I personally love touching and smelling things, especially if I’m planning to spend money on them, so this especially exciting to me. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to chat with the salesgirl and learn about the products right then in there without having to do my own research.

Since I have more than enough products at home right now, I decided to check out a couple of new face masks. I asked for recommendations and the salesgirl suggested the Dr.Jart+ Dermask Vital Hydra Solution Deep Hydration Sheet Mask. At this point in the day I had spent several hours outside in 3 degree weather, so I figured a super moisturizing face mask couldn’t hurt and decided to take one home.

img_2275

This was my first Dr. Jart mask, and I was pretty impressed with it. I loved the smell (roses!!) and was surprised by the thin texture. It is probably the thinnest mask I have ever used, and definitely the first one that I have had to peel off of a second sheet. I was a little worried that I would tear it, but it all went very well.

img_2279

Next, I tried the mask on. This mask did not fit as well as some of the others that I have used. The thin texture allowed the mask to cling to my skin, but it did not match my eyes and mouth. I haven’t had a problem with this before and it wasn’t much of a problem this time, though it was not ideal.

img_2276

The mask in general looked a bit silly on me. I was super tired and did not work very hard to take nice pictures.

As you can see, the mask material was very thin and allowed my skin impurities to show through.

I was ready for bed after 20 minutes with the mask on. When I took it off there was still some liquid, but it felt nice and absorbed very quickly.

All in all, I enjoyed the mask and would use another one. I paid a bit too much for the product (around $6.00) but they are available at lower cost online. The Amazon link says 5 for under $15, which is a much better deal.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this mask.

Beauty Review: Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask

I received a nice sized haul from Memebox this week that included a product I’ve been wanting to try, Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Mask. This mask is featured in the top AB reddit post and it’s definitely part of the reason that I was drawn in.

The mask arrive in a cute little box with an adorable little piggie on front. I opened it up and was surprised to find a little spoon to help spread the clay. I was also surprised at the clay itself, kind of a gray sticky goo.

There isn’t a strong scent, but it does smell nice and clean. I decided to slather it on my friends face first because I wanted the bubbles to be a surprise for him. It started foaming up right away and it was fully bubbled by the time that I got the mask on my own face.

img_0249

We hung out for a while and laughed at each other. Adorable snapchat videos occured. My boyfriend joined in which made the experience 100x more fun. Also the bubbles on my cheeks foamed up enough that they started getting in my eyelashes!

img_0268-1

Finally we got bored of popping bubbles on each others faces and decided to wash it off. I realized that I didn’t know what to do so I did a google and found out that you pop the bubbles, add water, and rub it in for an additional two minutes.

img_0251

The texture after popping the bubbles was thick and creamy, so I will probably use less of the mask in the future. It took a while to wash off, but afterwards my skin felt super clean and amazing. I had a lot of fun with this product and will definitely use it again in the future. It’s not really something that I’ll use on a regular basis, but definitely whenever I have friends over or if I’m in the mood to play around.

If you’re interested in purchasing this mask, use this memebox referal link. It gives you 20% off!
