Product Review: Activated Charcoal Konjac Sponge

Getting packages in the mail is the highlight of my life. I love getting things because I often forget what I’ve ordered by the time it arrives, so it’s exciting to find out what’s inside. This time I received a konjac sponge to try out for my blog – I enjoy using konjac sponges and wanted to try one out with activated charcoal.

Amazon shipment

The konjac sponge arrived wrapped as they usually do. It was completely solid and I was a bit taken aback when I opened it because it has a strong unpleasant scent. I am very sensitive to smell though so I’m not sure that it would bother anyone else.

New Conjac Sponge

I was happy to see that this sponge included the string for hanging and that the sponge itself was larger than most I have tried. It’s not gigantic, but it is slightly bigger than most.

Charcoal Conjac Sponge

Next I took it to the bathroom to get it wet. The sponge softened quickly after running it under the tab. The smell did not linger – I took a huge whiff and there was nothing unpleasant.

Wet Conjac Sponge

After using it on my face I can safely report that this is a great purchase. I recently moved so most of my things are in random locations and hard to find. I haven’t been able to exfoliate my skin chemically for a while, and I will keep this hanging in the shower so that I can do so physically each morning. The sponge is nice and soft so it does not irritate your skin when you use it, and it leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh.

Have you ever used a konjac sponge before? Are you interested in trying one out but have questions? Let me know and I’ll try to answer as best I can ūüôā

Review: Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid Shiny Foot

One of my favorite Asian beauty products is the Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid Shiny Foot. This product helps remove all of the dead skin from your feet and is absolutely disgusting but also complete magic. I have done a foot peel twice and have been very happy with the results both times. If you’re someone who has stubborn dead skin during the winter, I highly recommend trying this product out.

Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid

The product comes packed neatly in a nice square box, about the size of a DVD case.

Tony Moly Super Peeling Liquid Contents

Inside you’ll find two packets of “super peeling liquid,” a sample-sized packet of the Tony Moly Shiny Foot foot cream, and two plastic booties.

Tony Moly Foot Peel Process

In order to use the product, you slip the booties on your feet and then pour in the peeling liquid. After you pour it in, you can tie the booties tight around your ankles to prevent any of the product from leaking.

Tony Moly Foot Peel Wraps

The liquid feels very cold when you pour it over your feet. Though it’s cold, the liquid does not hurt or tingle. It’s important that you keep the booties on for at least 30 minutes so that the liquid can soak into your skin. The booties fit my feet perfectly, and I am a US size 9. Because they have ties, the booties will be able to adjust to fit different sized feet.

Here is a picture of my heel before using the product.

Tony Moly Foot Peel

Here is a picture of my heel after my skin started peeling. This process does not hurt – though it does hurt if you pick/peel any skin that is not ready to come off. The areas that are white tend to be ready to go and the areas that are more skin colored are not quite ready to be removed. It’s always a fun surprise when you look down and suddenly big chunks of your skin are falling off.

It takes about a week for the skin to start peeling, and the length of time that it peels is unique to each person. If you have an event or know that you will be showing off your feet, I would give yourself at least two weeks from start to finish so that you do not terrify anyone.

All-in-all, I really enjoy this Tony Moly product. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to try out a foot peel or a unique product. I am keeping a couple of them on hand so that I can take care of my feet whenever a disaster strikes. Since I can’t keep my feet smooth on my own, it’s nice to know that at least there is a product out there that will turn the situation around.

Review: Mediheal AirGuard Foilab Sheet Mask

I was very excited to try out this sheet mask – not only is it super cool and unique, but it is the first asian beauty item that I have received for free in order to try out and review on my blog. I entered a contest on Mishe Beauty to try out several different products and was really excited when the company emailed to let me know that I had been selected to try out the Mediheal AirGuard Foilab Sheet Mask.

The product arrived in the mail a few weeks ago. I was very under the weather so I wasn’t able to review it right away, and I finally got the chance to do so today.

Mediheal Airguard Foilab Mask Silver Waterful

Right away I was really excited because I have never tried a foil mask before. I have seen a few pictures of them on the internet and had my fingers crossed that I would be able to try this one out. I was excited to see that it was “waterful” which means hydrating, because it is the middle of summer and I have been spending a lot of time in the sun. My skin needs all the hydrating it can ¬†get.

IMG_5963.JPG

When I took the mask out of the packet I was surprised to see that it was in two pieces. I have been wanting to try a split mask for a while, but thought that I would need to cut one of my own in order to do so. Masks tend to fit my face pretty well so I haven’t needed to do it, but they never fit my boyfriend or my friends.

I was also very confused about how to put it on my face. I wasn’t sure if I needed to peel anything off, so I fumbled around with it for a while before I finally realized what to do.

IMG_5968.JPG

I had a lot of fun putting this on. I was not able to get off the couch so I did it blind and adjusted using my phone. I did think it was a bit of a strange fit and had a hard time straightening it out to try to make it look nice.

Sheet Mask Cute Girls

I enjoyed the fact that even looking super goofy I looked adorable.

silver sheet mask

I had a hard time looking cute in this mask, maybe because my hair was wet, but I did have a lot of fun trying it on and taking pictures. It’s very fancy and cute! I texted my boyfriend and he called me a beautiful robot.

I didn’t care much for the serum. It had the standard chemically smell that a lot of masks have and it started to sting my face after a few minutes. I was worried that I might have an allergic reaction, so I probably need to check out the ingredient list and see if there is anything in it that might have caused that reaction. My skin was fine when I took the mask off, but it was not the most enjoyable sheet mask experience I have had.

The mask does contain¬†“70% Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate.” I hadn’t heard of this before but a quick google suggests that it is a fermented fungus and is very common in asian skincare products. Apparently it is very good at moisturizing and locking that moisture in.

One of the coolest things about it is that the silver side felt dry, but when I took it off my skin was very moist from the serum. The material kept the moisture in so that it would absorb rather than evaporate.

All-in-all, I really enjoyed trying out this mask. The main draw is how cute and unique it is, but the mask itself was pretty nice. If you’d like to try it out feel free to check out the Mishe Beauty website. You can also apply for any of their ongoing campaigns and maybe receive a product to try yourself.

Do you think you’ll try one of these masks out? Do you have any other questions? I still want to try the gold version, it’s so beautiful!

Review: Skederm Snail Jelly Mask

Last night I had a friend over for beauty time and we tried out the Skederm Snail Jelly Mask. This was my first time using the mask and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the product. I decided to purchase these masks because I had read a good review, and there was a 50% off deal for Amazon. I get a little nervous trying new products because I always worry that my skin will have a bad reaction, but these masks had ingredients similar to masks I’ve tried before.

The masks arrived as a 10 pack, and unfortunately, the box was squished. The masks themselves were fine, but I really enjoy nice packaging and was kind of bummed that Amazon didn’t package the product well.

When we took the masks out of the packaging, the first thing that I noticed was the texture. The product had a pleasant gel like consistently that instantly made me feel like my skin would be more plump after using. The masks contain snail secretion, which is in several of my favorite products that I used regularly and works really well with my skin. The mask itself was thin but not thin enough to fall apart or tear while opening.

My mask fit me perfectly, but it was too big for my friend’s beautiful face. My boyfriend also tried one on, and it was a bit too small in some areas and also hung off around his beard.

Here is a very lovely clip of the three of us wearing our masks.

Anna pointed out that I looked a litttttle bit cuter in my mask than she did in hers:

Annnd here is a photo of each of us with our masks on:

While the product itself was pretty wonderful, the mask fit my face the best of the three. Devon had a few issues due to beard life, and it was too big for Anna and kept slipping off, though she liked the serum. There are methods for cutting masks that might help them both have better experiences in the future.

We all really liked the serum and I personally felt like my skin was super moist and plump after using, and the entire day following. I am currently using a retinoid so I applied this after Stridex in the red box and the Retin-A cream, and did not have the usual dryness at the end of my routine.

Also, Anna is apparently a genius because after putting the mask on she took what was left of the serum from the envelope and rubbed it on her legs. I can’t believe that I never thought to do this myself.

I would definitely repurchase this product and recommend it to friends, so if you end up buying and trying it out, please let me know!

First Impressions: Tester Korea Haul

I am beyond excited about a new haul from Tester Korea! I have only ever shopped for AB products on Amazon, Memebox, and in person. Ordering from new websites is always a little anxiety inducing, especially when they’re located in a foreign country. I decided to order from Tester Korea because I was running low on one of my favorite products and TK had the best value for replacement.

Without further ado..

Here is the whole beautiful order.

Dear by Enprani – Moistful Booskin. This is my all time favorite AB product. It is a moisturizing toner that I use after I wash my face. It smells incredible, does not have any acne triggers, and leaves my skin baby soft. Unfortunately, it is really hard to come by. Fortunately, my first bottle lasted almost an entire year. I was surprised to see that they redesigned the packaging, but happy that the product smelled the same. I think the scent may be a little stronger? Either that, or the strength of the product in my current bottle might have diminished a bit over the last year. I am thrilled to have gotten my hands on another bottle of this magic elixir.

IMG_4786

I ordered a handful of Help My Finger Nail Finger Packs by Etude House. I get a ton of hangnails and they are a bad combination with my infection prone skin. I am hoping to use these to reduce dry skin and keep my nails looking healthy. They were very reasonably priced so I ordered a few extras to gift.

Shiny Foot Super Peeling Liquid – TonyMoly. If you have gross feet you need this product. I have used it once before and although my feet weren’t completely perfect afterward, they helped me reduce the amount of dead skin and cracking/peeling that my feet seem to always be experiencing. I have already used one of these, so I am looking forward to posting the gross results for your enjoyment.

IMG_4793

This was my risky addition of the purchase. Water Color Tint by Skinfood. I can’t tell you what shade it is because it is in Korean on the website, but I went with an orange. I have been wanting to try an orange tint because I think it might work well with my complexion. I tried it out when it arrived and liked the results – but I did not have anything in matching shades to wear so I am not sure if it is complimentary. This was also my first AB makeup product purchase!

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Acne Pimple Master Patch – CosRX and AC Control Spot Patch – Tony Moly. These are both different versions of hydrocolloid patches. I have used both before – I do not 100% love either version, but these do a great job of helping out when my skin is really bad. Since I am currently going through the painful stages of using a retinoid, having these on hand is a must.

IMG_4854.JPG

Romantic Rose Hand Cream – ChooNee. This was another random purchase due to low cost. I LOVE the scent of this, but so far I am not impressed by the quality of the lotion. I can safely say already that I would not repurchase.. Unless it’s purely for smelling purposes only.

Speaking of, the scent triggered a smell memory for my uncle. After he took a whiff he said, “It smells like… Mothballs.. The back of my grandma’s closet!” We quickly agreed that he did not mean that the product smelled like mothballs, but whatever his grandmother used to freshen up her clothing. I honestly think it smells terrific, so my great grandmother must have had great¬†taste.

Annnnnd finally!!!

IMG_4813 2.JPG

While I did not go to the Tester Korea website for this product, I was absolutely delighted to see that they had the Tony Moly Inked Cushion Gel Liner (also known as the HARRY POTTER EYE LINER) in stock!! I ordered two shades, a purpley shade for me, and black for a friend. I am verrrry excited to finally have my hands on this product and to give it a test run soon! I have never used a purple eyeliner and I have a ton of brown, so I thought I would switch things up a little with the purple. It is so pretty!!

So that’s it! Thank you for taking a look at these items. I will be writing a review of ordering from the Tester Korea website in the near future, but I hope you enjoyed snooping through my purchases now. Which item would you like to see a review of first? Review: Tony Moly I’m Real Broccoli Sheet Mask (Vitality)

During a recent trip to New York City, I googled Korean Beauty shops and found out that there was a Tony Moly in Chinatown. I was super excited because I’ve never been to a KBeauty shop for a single brand. I bought a bunch of stuff but the highlight of the shop was being able to pick and choose sheet masks instead of being required to buy a huge pre-determined pack.¬†One of the ones that I was most interested in trying was the I’m Real Broccoli Mask Sheet – Vitality. Not necessarily because of any specific benefits, mostly because of the broccoli. When is the last time you put broccoli on your face?

img_3104.jpg

I was very excited to open the mask up because until now, I’ve only used floral masks or masks with snail/bee essence. I had no idea what to expect. Would it smell like broccoli?¬†I hoped not, but I prepared myself in case it did.

Fortunately it did not smell like broccoli or any other green veggies. It had a nice smell, similar to other Tony Moly masks. It’s a bit hard to describe the scent but it’s not too different from your generic pleasant sheet mask chemical smell.

IMG_3109.JPG

The mask itself was the same quality as the other Tony Moly masks I’ve used. Slightly flimsy and see through, but not flimsy enough that it tore apart while opening.¬†These masks fit my face really well (except for my inner eye/nose bridge area) so they’re one of my personal faves.

I kept the mask on for about a half hour and enjoyed the results. There wasn’t so much liquid left that I felt like it was a waste, but there was still some essence left to pat in.¬†All in all, the mask itself was not groundbreaking but I felt like I got my money’s worth.

Here is a list of ingredients from Ulta, in case you’re curious:¬†Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Panthenol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil Chlorphenesin, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Phenoxyethanol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Carbomer, 1-2Hexanediol, Propanediol, Tromethanmine, Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Capryly Glycol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance, Ascorbic Acid

In general, I recommend purchasing these masks. Of the masks I’ve tried they’re probably the best value – you definitely get your bang for your buck.

Have you tried any of the Tony Moly sheet masks? I would love to hear your thoughts and which masks you recommend from the I’m Real collection.

Best Sheet Masks to Scare Your Partner

A friend recently let me know that she was looking at my blog for sheet mask recommendations. I asked her which benefits she was looking for in a sheet mask, and she responded, “I just want something that will scare my boyfriend.” As someone who also enjoys scaring her boyfriend, I instantly had a few suggestions.

#1 For those of you who have never used a sheet mask, you are guaranteed to scare your partner¬†the first time you put one on, especially if you don’t forewarn them. That means you can use any sheet mask, even one of the basics. I am a big fan of the first sheet mask I ever used, the Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack. This mask uses snail and bee venom and is incredibly moisturizing. There are no acne triggers, and you can usually get a box of ten for a good price on Amazon.

#2 If you’re looking for a mask that is both cute and terrifying at the same time, I recommend the panda Character Mask by The Face Shop. This mask works well and is meant to be adorable, but definitely has a creepy factor. I put this on expecting to find myself completely adorable but really just felt like the Joker.

#3 For those of you who have boyfriends who have already seen you in masks, or for those of you who really want to scare the pants off your boyfriend the first time they see you in a mask, I recommend the zombie Pure Smile Special Effects Makeup Art Mask. (If you make an account here to order this product, ask me for a referral. We both benefit.) This mask was gifted to me by a lovely friend. I unfortunately decided to give it to my boyfriend and did not get to experience the joy of terrorizing him with it, but I loved watching him put it on. My boyfriend has a giant beard most of the time so it looked like his skin was literally falling off. It was lovely.

Nighttime sheet mask routine

I have not been using sheet masks much in 2017 but I recently started using a retinoid and thought my skin could use a boost. I like sheet masking because the different sheet masks have different benefits and can be useful when other products cause irritation. Right now my skin is a little bit irritated and super dry, so I decided to go with the Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

If I sheet mask I always do it before bed. Naturally the first step of this routine is washing my face. Tonight I used the Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash, which is my go-to face wash when I’m not in the shower. I love this face wash because it has a balanced ph and doesn’t dry my skin out.¬†It is super neutral and also doesn’t have any acne triggers. It would be my holy grail if it didn’t seem to always get ruined in the shower.

After washing my face I spray Dear by Enprani Moistful Booskin all over my face. This is my all-time favorite asian beauty product and I’ve been going nuts lately because I can’t find a full-size bottle online for an affordable price. Moistful Booskin is a moisturizing toner which works to hydrate your face and prepare it for whatever comes next. This particular product smells like roses and is perfect. I decanted it into this spray bottle so I could get full, all-over coverage without wasting a drop.

After the booskin, I use an active. Since I’m working on adding the retinoid into my routine most nights, I used Stridex in the red box tonight. I don’t remember why at this point, but red box is the only one that you should use. This is one of the very best products for actually fighting¬†acne out there – I highly recommend it. Since it can be a bit drying, I always follow up with a face lotion or a hydrating sheet mask.

Now, the sheet mask. As I mentioned, I used the Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack tonight. I love this mask – it’s one of the first asian beauty products that I bought and I try to always have one on hand. They’re super soothing, smell good, don’t have acne triggers, and my skin always feels perfectly¬†hydrated the next day. I figured it would be good since my skin is breaking out a little bit from the retinoid, and the moisturizing aspect is desperately needed right now. I have a dozen other masks that I’ll use if I’m feeling adventurous or experiencing a bad breakout, but this is a nice go to when my skin needs a pick-me-up.

Product Review: HiSmile Day 1

Man, it really sucks when you see a picture of you and a friend and your eyes are drawn to the fact that their teeth are noticeably whiter than yours. I have never been able to whiten my teeth. I remember buying Crest white strips for the first time as a teenager, and leaving them on even though it felt like I was chewing on tinfoil. I wasn’t brave enough to continue to regimen, so my teeth never got whiter, but every few years I would try them out again with the same results.

I haven’t heard much about HiSmile but a couple of weeks ago I was talking to a friend who mentioned that they were good for sensitive teeth. Later that night Kylie Jenner posted on SnapChat that the product was 50% off, so I decided to buy a kit.

The package showed up in the mail yesterday. It took about two (maybe three) weeks to get here. I think it came from Australia? Not 100% sure because I had someone else do the ordering for me, but it says AirMail. I was super amused to see that I am apparently a company called “What Up Jenn” in 2017.

The kit comes with three pens full of gel, a mouth piece, and a UV light. It also comes with a “how it works” note that explains how to use the product and a tool that allows you to measure the shade of your teeth before starting use.

fullsizerender-4

I think my teeth are about a seven. This isn’t the best light, but the photo is unedited.

fullsizerender-5

After measuring my tooth color, I pieced together the product and put it in my mouth. I pushed the button, and voila! It wasn’t terribly difficult to figure out, and the product wasn’t strange to use. I waited the full ten minutes and could see a bit of a shade difference immediately after, though not anything significant. I could definitely see the calciums in my teeth that had whitened up.

While it wasn’t pain free, the pain was only on the top of my two upper front teeth and was gone before bedtime. I am a little nervous about that and I’m hoping it doesn’t get worse as the week goes on.

fullsizerender-6

Selfie! I was simultaneously wearing a charcoal nose strip which was terrible and not at all worth reviewing.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I’m not sure if there are any referral bonuses for this product, but if you decide to buy let me know so I can look. It’s always nice for us all if we can get discounts!

Answer: What is sheet masking?

Last summer, a friend of mine introduced me to Asian beauty. She did so by linking me to the Asian beauty subreddit and it quickly became my new obsession. Since I had been having a difficult time with my skin, I decided to take a look at the products that were available.

I’m always interested in trying something cute and new, and Asian beauty products are certainly that. I began to research products that were specifically designed to help with acne, or products that would at least not make my sensitive skin any worse than it already was.

The first thing that I did was build a basic routine. Asian beauty experts recommend waiting at least two weeks between introducing new products, so I would order a new product every two weeks on payday. The products generally range from $10-25 so it was nice to break up the spending and take advantage of Amazon Prime shipping.

One of the first products that I ordered was a set of sheet masks. If you are someone who has wondered why I post photos of myself on Snapchat or Instagram with white sheets over my face, this is the reason. Sheet masks are thin paper masks that are soaked in an “essence” that works to specifically improve one or more¬†aspects of your skin. Some of the common skin concerns are acne, moisturizing, aging, and whitening (which really means brightening.)

My first purchase was a ten pack of the Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Masks. I was excited to try the masks, although I was a little worried that the mask would react with a bee allergy that I’m not 100% sure I still have. I ordered the masks and when they arrived, I thought about patch testing but decided to just throw one on my face¬†because.. You only live once, right?

Fortunately, there was no reaction and I really loved the mask. While I will admit that¬†I’ve never had noticeable effects from the use of a single mask, I always enjoy the relaxation time that comes after applying a fresh mask. I especially enjoyed my family’s reaction to seeing me in a mask the first time, but I was a little bit heartbroken¬†when my dogs weren’t at all spooked my new look.

All-in-all, sheet masks are a fun adventure. It is important to find masks that work with your skin concerns, and the Asian beauty subreddit (plus the internet!) can help you find the products that are right for you.
